Former MSD Pitcher Jesus Luzardo Nominated for Roberto Clemente Award


Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas pitcher Jesus Luzardo was named the Miami Marlins selection for the Roberto Clemente Award.


This award is given to the player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement, and the individual’s contribution to his team,” as voted on by baseball fans and media members.


Luzardo, a 2016 graduate, is a part of the Miami Marlins Foundation events, regularly participating in Baseball Fantasy Camps for Kids, visiting children’s hospitals, and more. He hosts a free baseball clinic for local youth at his Marjory Stoneman Douglas and the Luzardo Family Foundation to empower and uplift children from underserved communities while helping them reach their full potential.


He is a staple of Miami Marlins Foundation events, regularly participating in Baseball Fantasy Camps for Kids, visiting children’s hospitals, and more. Luzardo hosts a free baseball clinic for local youth at his former school every year before the season begins. Earlier this year, he launched the Luzardo Family Foundation to empower and uplift children from underserved communities while helping them reach their full potential.


Luzardo will be recognized before the Marlins’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 18. Fans can vote for Luzardo at http://MLBTogether.com/clementeawar. The award winner will be announced during the World Series.
